History

Founders Michel and Jean-Pierre Hugues created GSE in 1976 and invented a new line of work: The General Contractor. This profession covers the design and turnkey construction of commercial buildings : factories, company officies, logistics centers, …

 

It offers contractual guarantees on price, deadlines and performance. Since then the offer has expanded to include land sourcing, to design & build and servicing post delivery. We called this comprehensive approach “Global Contracting”.

 

Today, with the GSE Group operating through a network of entities in France and abroad, our global contractor approach has been widely imitated across the commercial real estate industry.

1976

GSE creation

The founders, Michel and Jean-Pierre Hugues, establish GSE and pioneer a new profession: General Contractor.

1980

80’s : business growth

GSE earns the trust of new clients and expands its portfolio with projects for major retailers.

1990

90’s : logistics centers launch

GSE contributes to the development of large-scale logistics parks and supports its clients across Europe and China.

1999

Industrial expertise and mastery of controlled environments

The group expands its offering for high-tech industrial operations with the acquisition of Michel Ferrier Engineering (MFE) company.

2003

Development of a local offering across the entire territory

GSE establishes the Regional Contractor Company (CCR) to support businesses across France with local agencies.

2003

GSE becomes a member of Global Compact France from its launch.

GSE joins Global Compact France from its inception and serves on the Board of Directors until 2020.

2009

Launch of GSE products: Cecodia and Modulog

In 2009, GSE created the Cecodia concept, offering eco-friendly and high-performance offices, followed by Modulog in 2010, consolidating all our expertise into a logistic building.

2010

Diversification into commercial real estate

The GSE Group acquires GAM Ingénierie to ensure the design and construction of commercial spaces in France and internationally.

2013

Creation of the Idea’Park concept and development of XXL warehouses

GSE launches Idea’Park, a flexible professional space designed to accommodate SMEs and independent professionals. The group specializes in the construction of very large logistic warehouses.

2015

GSE consolidates under a single brand.

All companies within the group unite under a single brand: GSE. CCR becomes GSE Regions and GAM becomes GSE Engineering.

2016

Creation of The Lab, the dedicated innovation service

The Lab brings together experts in environmental transition, BIM technology, digital innovation, and building design.

2018

GSE Foundation launch

GSE establishes a foundation to support humanitarian, educational, cultural, and social projects worldwide.

2019

GOLDBECK acquires 100% of GSE’s share capital

GOLDBECK, a Germany-based turnkey construction company, acquires GSE in place of Towerbrook Capital Partners and its other shareholders.

2023

GSE becomes a Mission-Driven Company

On July 28, 2023, GSE decides to adopt the status of a Mission-Driven Company, with its purpose being “Designing and building with respect for nature, developing while serving territories, thriving by caring for people.”

GSE, a GOLDBECK’s subsidiary

GOLDBECK constructs innovative commercial buildings across Europe. The company views buildings as products, efficiently delivering them as a single point of contact: from design and construction to services during operation. Since its establishment in Germany in 1969, the company has successfully completed over 10,000 projects.

 

In May 2019, GOLDBECK acquired 100% of GSE’s shares. This successful acquisition has positioned GOLDBECK and GSE as European leaders in the construction of commercial buildings. Together, the two companies employ over 10,000 employees across more than 70 sites.
