GSE delivers Europe’s most advanced logistics centre to fedefarma

GSE Spain delivered a new logistics centre of 19,400m², to pharmaceutical distribution cooperative fedefarma in Palau-Solità i Plegamans, near Barcelona.

The construction of this new robotised logistics centre was a major architectural challenge due to the specific automation processes that make it one of the most efficient Spanish warehouses in its sector. The warehouse can handle more than 130,000 orders a day and amounts to an increase of almost 40% in fedefarma’s current production potential.

To accomplish this feat, GSE’s technical team created a prefabricated concrete structure with several mezzanines for offices overseeing the various lines of work. The building was designed to be as smart as possible. The basement accounts for 20 percent of the building’s total floor area – an unusually large share in the world of logistics – and serves as a dispatch area for 36 vans. The ground level has nine docks for receiving goods.

The project’s excellence is recognised by a BREEAM Very Good certificate, which highlights fedefarma’s and GSE’s particular sensitivity to issues of corporate social responsibility and sustainable development.
